“In all the chronicles of the ages, never before has any nation celebrated so magnificent a triumph as this one. At 250 years, America is the oldest republic on earth. We are the freest people on earth. We have the most righteous and enduring Constitution on earth. We are the strongest and most powerful country on earth. And by the grace of God, the United States of America is the most successful, most accomplished, most exceptional nation ever to exist in human history. The birth and survival of the American nation under God is, quite simply, the best and most incredible thing ever to happen on this planet by human hands, ever. No other country has done more good for this world than the United States of America.”
–President Donald J. Trump, speaking at Mt. Rushmore, South Dakota (July 3, 2026).
I hope everyone celebrated and enjoyed the Independence Day weekend. Our family gathered with friends to watch the fireworks, and Holland fixed a lovely dinner with traditional backyard grilling dishes. Our gathering was quite special. We are truly blessed.
As is our country truly blessed. Across the country Americans attended parades, readings of the Declaration of Independence, picnics, and fireworks displays. It is always a magnificent and important time of year, and a most important celebration. Despite the turmoil we sometimes endure in our body politic, I truly believe our Founding Fathers would be pleased at our country’s progress, and stability in achieving 250 years of existence.
Despite my antipathy to (actually, hostility towards) the World Cup, it has been heartening to see so many foreign tourists enjoy their time in the United States. These tourists have been fed a daily diet by the press that this is a rude, violent, racist, poor country, where the “rich” eat the peasants for nourishment. What our World Cup visitors have found instead is that the American people are friendly, warm, welcoming, prosperous, and happy. We live well, enjoying comforts that others in this world can only dream of enjoying. From barbecue to fried chicken, to large houses to air conditioning to Buc-ee’s to our vast interstate highway system, our foreign friends are experiencing an experience completely unknown to them. Take the simple pleasure and comfort of . . . ice. We have ice everywhere, for slushies, cocktails, cokes, or just icing down quantities of beer in a cooler. That is unheard of in much of the rest of the world.
And our geography! No country in the world enjoys such vast space and differences. There is the beauty and soft ridges of the Blue Ridge Mountains, to compare to the beauty and rugged outlines of the Rocky Mountains. There is the warm Atlantic Ocean, the Chesapeake Bay (and all its wonderful seafood–crabs, oysters, fish, and shrimp), the more placid Gulf of America, and the more active, and much colder, Pacific Ocean. We have the Grand Canyon, Great Salt Lake, Great Lakes, and the Mississippi River. There are the rolling hills and flatlands of the American South, the prairies of the Midwest, and the deserts of the West and Southwest. Our foreign visitors marveled at the sights, many of which we long since stopped seeing, taking them for granted.
America was great in 1776. America was great in 1876. America was great in 1976. And today, at 250 years, we are reminded that America is still great. And a big thank you to our friends from abroad for reminding us how fortunate we truly are to live here.
And abroad, many nations joined in our festivities. In Japan, towers were lit up in red, white, and blue lights, and there was a massive celebration in Tokyo with fireworks. Even the French got into the spirit, lighting up the Eiffel Tower in red, white, and blue lights. The French!
Of course, not all reveled in the moment. The Left just was not feeling the love and excitement of such a monumental occasion. Leftists refused to fly American flags, or flew them upside down (a sign of distress).
“As nation turns 250, many Americans say the Stars and Stripes is now a red flag:
The American flag: To some, it’s Old Glory. To others, it’s a MAGA hat on a stick.”
–a headline on NBCNEWS.com.
The Left railed against our “fascist” government. They bewailed that the “rich” had more than the poor. And did you know that we are the only industrialized country that does not provide its citizenry with “free” healthcare? Of course, we are also “racist”, the Founding Fathers were “racist”, and since there were no “Founding Mothers”, they were sexist too! Statues of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt still stand, though thankfully the American Taliban have gotten rid of pretty much every statue of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.
“But this year, I can barely tolerate the sight of red, white and blue. When combined into a maximalist display of nationalist cheerleading, the colors make my heart ache.”
–former Washington Post columnist Robin Givhan, writing in The New York Times about how much she hates the celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
Miss Givhan’s column makes clear how much she loved Independence Day celebrations under Presidents Clinton, Obama, and Biden. But she cannot bear to love her country when the President is a Republican. Or worse, the Orange Man.
“You know, we talk about, directly to your point, we talk about this as the 250th anniversary, which it is, of the Second Continental Congress passing the Declaration of Independence, fully beginning the Revolutionary War, which ultimately leads in 1787-1789 to the framing of the Constitution, the inauguration of George Washington, and the beginning of what we would see as a recognizable experiment in self-government, except that a lot of people weren’t included in that. And in that important sentence about ‘all men being created equal,’ men had a very particular application in that era. There’s a very good case to be made, I think, that we were really founded in 1965, that that’s when a multiracial, multiethnic democracy came more fully into being, with the Immigration and Nationality Act, with the Voting Rights Act. And so we’re really about 60 years old, and we’re a developing democracy in a lot of ways.”
–Author and historian Jon Meachem, speaking on MS NOW.
Jon Meachem tries to present as a calm, reasoned, and moderate man. But he is as radical Left as they come.
“They’re going to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the country July 4th, but that’s not our celebration. We were slaves then, and they celebrate signing the Declaration of Independence 1776. We were not even emancipated until 1863. So I don’t know what everybody getting ready for a celebration [for]. You know that it seems crazy for me to have on the birthday hat at your birthday party. That ain’t my party.”
–“Reverend” Al Sharpton, also speaking on MS NOW.
Then do not show up to the party, “Reverend”. No one wants you there anyway.
The Washington Post weighed in, cautioning readers not to attend the fireworks display at the National Mall, due to “hazardous air pollution conditions”. According to the Post, the fireworks display would make breathing difficult, and could cause illness. If you had to attend, the Post recommended wearing an N-95 face mask. Sigh.
In all the years that there have been fireworks on the National Mall in celebration of our country’s Independence, The Washington Post has never advised people not to attend the celebration. The Post has never claimed that the fireworks would cause “hazardous air pollution conditions”. The Post has never suggested wearing a face mask. But now?
Tucker Carlson says he is starting a “new political party”. Good luck with that. There are only so many anti-Semitic cranks in this country, and most of them are already aligned with the Democrat Party.
Senator Bernie Moreno (R. Oh.) is re-introducing a bill first proposed in 1993, which would make clear that children born in the United States to illegal alien mothers, are not U.S. citizens. The bill was originally proposed by Senator Harry Reid (D. Nv.). Will the Democrats vote against their former party leader’s own legislation?
In the face of a massive heatwave blanketing the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, Comrade Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D. N.Y.) urged New Yorkers to set their thermostats at a minimum 78 degrees. Is not socialism grand?
By the way, the thermostats in City Hall are set well below 78 degrees. Many are set to 54 degrees. Rules for thee, but not for me.
Normal American politicians would be working with private American companies to expand and strengthen the power grid. Not the Socialists. Nope. By their reasoning, sacrifice is necessary. Just like in France, where more than 1,500 people have died during the current heatwave, due to lack of air conditioning.
New York City will spend $15 million on “gender affirming care” (i.e. genital mutilation surgery). This is just criminal. Thanks, Comrade Mayor Mamdani!
Leading up to Independence Day, Comrade Mayor Mamdani gave a televised speech whereby he blasted the country’s founding, demagogued the “rich”, and accused the federal government of an “invasion” due to the presence of ICE agents enforcing federal immigration laws. He is such an awful man.
California is working to make 2 Muslim holy days California State holidays. And the government wants to mandate that public schools teach about these holy days. Why? Really, why?
“Happy Somali Independence Day!”
–statement issued by the municipal government of Columbus, Ohio.
The city government raised the Somali national flag over City Hall. Why? And why is the city celebrating the indpendence of a radical, sh**hole country? This should never happen anywhere in the United States of America.
But the practice is spreading! Both Buffalo, New York and Boston, Massachusetts raised and flew the Somali flag! WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!?
In Buffalo, someone stole the Somali flag. In response, city officials cancelled the Independence Day fireworks display. When challenged on that decision, city officials replied that “logistics” rendered the fireworks display “unsafe”. When challenged on that explanation, the Mayor dismissed suggestions that the fireworks display could be launched from a barge in the river. The Mayor explained that since the city was planning on launching fireworks from a river barge in August, the city did not want to do that twice. Uh, huh.
There were no fireworks in Buffalo on Independence Day, because . . . Democrats. And Somalis.
Washington, D.C.’s city government cancelled its Independence Day parade, due to heat. It was rather warm.
Governor Tampon Tim (D. Mn.) pardoned an illegal alien who had been convicted of raping a 10 year old girl. Governor Tampon issued the pardon in an attempt to prevent his deportation.
This is not the 1st time Governor Tampon has pulled this stunt. He cares far more about illegal aliens than American citizens. ICE should deport the man anyway. Back to Laos he goes!
Virginia General Assembly Democrats gave Governor Spanberger (D.) millions of dollars to remove the remaining Confederate statues left standing in Richmond. The American Taliban will soon come for Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire, and William “Extra Billy” Smith.
Make Abigail Go Away.
Iran’s most senior clerics have called for the assassinations of President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring the leaders mahdour al-dam — or deserving of death. The 88-member Assembly of Experts issued a 10-point statement in which they said killing “the wicked prime minister of the Zionist regime” and “the criminal American president” was a religious duty that must be carried out “under any circumstances.”
These are the people we are negotiating with? Really?

Congratulations to Joey Chestnut on winning the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest for the 18th time. And congratulations to Miki Sudo who won in the women’s division.
“Where the hell the Los Angeles Lakers think they are going with a bunch of white dudes? Your three top players are white dudes. Really? This is basketball. In NBA history, when has a team led by three white dudes ever gone to the promised land? Somebody gotta say it.”
–ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
This is a new low. Even for Stephen A. Smith. Disgusting.
Former Los Angeles Ram cornerback LeRoy Irvin has died at age 68. R. I. P.

Along with everything you point out as to enjoying our wonderful nation, I am happy to both enjoy and serve as a citizen of the host country to the World Cup. Soccer, which I have loved from early childhood, is indeed the world’s game and what better country to showcase it in. Cheers! Stan Gordon
